Madrid, the capital of Spain since 1562, is located in the heart of the peninsula at 646 meters above sea level. Because of its central location and high altitude, the climate of Madrid is characterized by warm dry summers and cool winters.
This grand metropolis traces its origins to the time of Arab Emir Mohamed (852 - 886), who ordered the construction of a fortress on the left bank of the Manzanares river.
Over the years, Madrid has become a cosmopolitan city, a business center, headquarters for the Public Administration, Government, Spanish Parliament and the home of the Spanish Royal family. Madrid is Known for its intense cultural and artistic activity and a very lively nightlife.

Airport
Barajas Airport Information
Tel: +34 91 305 83 43 / 44 / 45 / 46 Before setting out for the airport you must be sure of the terminal Building you must go to T1, T2 or T3, which should be clearly mentioned in you airline ticket.
 
Barajas Airport is 13 km away from the city and is linked to Madrid by M30 or M40 motorways.
 
Regular bus service is available from the airport to the bus terminal at Plaza de Colón with various intermediate stops. Information on buses to airport departing from Plaza de Colón:

Line 8 of the “METRO”, (Madrid underground) takes you to the Centre of City (Nuevos Ministerios station) from the airport. Furthermore, you can check your luggage from Nuevos Ministerios Station directly to your destination.
 
Taxi service from Barajas Airport to the City Centre aproximately costs 25-30 Euros (€).
